Rupam. The appearance of things. How we perceive things. How things meet our eyes.

Taking as a starting point the representation of human figures on the walls of ancient Indian temples and perception within a sacred building, Rupam shifts the gaze of the seer, questioning for whom the dancing is.

Centring and decentring attention, exploring the roundness of the Odissi form and proposing alternative fronts, Rupam will take you into a journey that is equally of the senses and of the spirit. Here, the abstract time of mystic experience is marked by rhythmic footwork, while intricate gestures draw subtle lines of energy that bring the space alive.

Rupam showcases students of Bhumi Dance Academy.

Bhumi aims to bring excellence in dance, while also building community and belonging. We specialise in Odissi, a classical dance form from the Indian Subcontinent. We run regular classes and intensive workshops for all levels.
