Welcome to Bhumi Summer School 2023

Welcome to our Bhumi Summer School 2023 Blog!

It is a dream come true to be able to spend a full week (for those of us who have opted for it) or even just a few hours learning from the wondrous Bijayini Satpathy, an artist who has dedicated her life exclusively to dig deep into the profound and endless possibilities of the aesthetic body and whose art appeals beyond the limited circles of the form in which she specialises.

We have created this blog with multiple aims in mind. Firstly, we would like to use it to share daily impressions of the summer school. This is to allows us to pause and reflect on our learning experience, but also, for those who were not able to attend, to get an insight of what we are doing. Secondly, we would like to open this blog to any participant who is happy to share their thoughts, impressions, feelings. In doing so, we aim to provide a platform for sharing and creating a sense of belonging that we hope this event will provide. And of course, we hope to also document this summer school for future reference and evaluation purposes. Finally, we aim to curate an archive of words, pictures, videos, sounds and smiles to go back to, to cherish in our memories.

Whether you are able to attend in person or not, we hope this blog will allow you to feel and to be with us. Through these initiatives, here at Bhumi, hope to galvanise the South Asian dance artists to sector-specific Continuous Professional Development opportunities.

With love
